The War on Terror Comes Home

The 9/11 terrorist attacks were such an atrocity that the United States government took immediate action to keep Americans “safe at all costs” with the Patriot Act. But the costs to our civil liberties have been significant. The Patriot Act has been weaponized for almost no terror investigations, but has been routinely abused in drug investigations as well as some immigration investigations, and even nonviolent white-collar crimes. Now, President Donald Trump wants to permanently reauthorize Section 215, which allows the federal government limitless access to telephone metadata of American citizens without a warrant.
