China has erupted in protest after an apartment fire in the city of Urumqi killed 10 people and injured 9 others. Residents were unable to escape due to the continuing quarantines imposed by the Chinese government’s impossible quest for zero COVID. No amount of effort can completely eliminate all traces of a contagious respiratory virus from a society of over 1 billion people. But that hasn’t stopped the Chinese government from trying, using the harshest methods possible.
