It’s finally happened, the moment I’ve known one day must come: the marriage of no-holds-barred physical combat and the Austrian School of economics. When UFC fighter Renato Moicano celebrated his latest victory with a shout out to Ludwig von Mises, he not only created a viral moment, but highlighted the urgent need for Americans to wake up and see what is being done to their country.
In Moicano’s speech, he declared his love for America and the Constitution, but warned that “if you care about your f@*#ing country, read Ludwig von Mises and the six lessons of the Austrian School, motherf@*#ers.!” Later, he elaborated about the danger of inflation, which is rapidly debasing the U.S. dollar and making us poorer by the day.
Ludwig von Mises, one of the seminal figures of the Austrian School, understood this problem all too well, and warned against the ruinous consequences of expansionary monetary policy. But you don’t have to take my word for it, or even Moicano’s. You can follow the fighter’s advice and read Mises in his own words. Mises’s book “Economic Policy: Thoughts for Today and Tomorrow” has surged in popularity since Moicano’s speech, with some retailers reporting that they have already sold out of physical copies. But never fear! Free the People’s digital library has you covered. You can download the full text here, absolutely free.
This book was compiled from several lectures by Mises urging Argentina to liberalize its economic policy, and lays out in simple, straightforward terms the basic lessons of sound economics, including the importance of prices and private property, the hazards of socialism, and much more. It’s just one of the many books by Mises we are making available free of charge, and a great starting point for anyone who wants to understand why our country is heading down the wrong path, and how to change things for the better.
In addition, we are offering our exclusive Read More Mises t-shirts and stickers to help spread Moicano’s message to the masses. Now you can support liberty and make a fashion statement at the same time.
I’m delighted to see voices like Moicano’s shining a light on the wisdom of the Austrian School; the time has never been more ripe for Americans to demand sound economic policy from their government. If even the UFC can spread the word and stand up for what’s right, what’s your excuse?
Absolutely hilarious. Street fighters out intellectualizing the effete elite in the executive suite!
After watching the fight on UFC and Moicano winning decisively, I could not believe my ears when he made a shout out to Mises. My husband and I looked at each other and shook our heads not sure if we had heard correctly. Fortunately we had DVRed the fight and could go back and watch it again.
Soon our phone was ringing with calls from like minded friends who also could not believe their ears. What a wonderful evening that lifted our hearts. Someone get that man a mic!
