“Be careful, you are on the edge. They are watching.” That’s how Cuban-born artist Carlos Luna was warned by a trusted teacher that his art would get him in trouble with Fidel Castro’s authoritarian regime. This warning echoed Carlos’ grandmother, who had already told him at age 13 that he would need to leave his family and home if he wanted to be free to pursue his craft. So began a hero’s journey to create what Carlos calls “The Free Life” from Cuba, to Mexico, to finally, Miami.
