The Need for Comic Relief | Lou Perez | Ep 25

Lou Perez is a comedian, producer, host of The Lou Perez Podcast, and author of the book, That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore. Free the People has teamed up with Lou to produce a new series, Comedy Is Murder. In the first episode, one of Lou’s characters is arrested for a murder “she” says she didn’t commit. During an interview with host Sienna Mae Heath, the morbid joke is on us as the smoke from the Canadian wildfires settles in the background. Lou and Sienna discuss his writing process, the dynamics of dry humor, and the difference between mocking and making light of a sacred cow. They explore the phenomenon of words being labeled “literal violence” and its effect on free speech.

Leaving the Left for Liberty is also available as a podcast on your app of choice. Follow Sienna Mae Heath on Substack, Medium, and Instagram.
