A Republic If We Can Keep It

A security fence topped with barbed wire surrounds the United States Capitol—the cost of which exceeds $19 million—blocking citizens from visiting areas that are normally open to the public. National Guardsmen and police officers patrol the Capitol grounds, some carrying rifles. Every one of us is an American forced to look upon a scar. As long as this gate is closed, as long as this scar of a wall is permitted to stand, it is not the American question alone that remains open but the question of freedom for all of mankind. Matt Kibbe visits the fence and asks Speaker Pelosi, “If you seek peace, if you seek prosperity, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate. Speaker Pelosi, open this gate. Speaker Pelosi, tear down this wall.”

He was senior advisor for a Rand Paul Presidential Super PAC in 2016, and later co-founded AlternativePAC to promote libertarian values.

  • Is it a ‘wall’ to keep subjects out of the area of government function? Does it provide security from unwarranted intrusion?

Let us provide for the common defense. Let us protect ourselves from the untested and the unvaccinated. Let us protect ourselves from the rabble.

Close the gates against unwarranted intrusion. Guard the ‘walls’ against gangs who are not subject to law.
