Matt Kibbe is joined by Scott Horton, editorial director of Anti-War.com, to talk about why peace is such a difficult sell in Washington, D.C. While politicians like Barack Obama and Donald Trump campaign on a platform of non-intervention, once they get into office, very little seems to change. Part of the reason for this is a military-industrial complex dating back to World War II, with strong incentives to keep growing the military forever. In a sense, it no longer matters what the American people want or how they vote, because Congress answers to a higher authority—the Pentagon.

Article II of the U.S. Constitution, Section 2, indicates who is the commander and chief of the army and navy of the United States — in order to provide for the common defense. The Declaration of Independence is cognizant of the need for future security of the U.S., (as well as presently).
In order to be a separate ‘nation’ of governed people with a limited government, we are wise to be sensitive to growing conglomerates of power — as in growing empires. Some empires are identified as ‘national states.’ Growing empires are filled with ideologies that are far from liberty-minded views.
Absolute control freaks want control of power. Whom shall be gutsy enough to separate the liberty-minded from the bullies?
The old normal in human events is something like Machiavelli’s “The Prince.” Warfare for control of populations is nearly planetary wide, violence as a useful tool for authoritarians.
Liberty may be that odd idea out of the normal run of human affairs. Informed people from individuals and classes and groups and interests with experience of elite authoritarianism controlling people who are trying to-think-of-liberty ought to lead individuals to point to the terrorism of political lust.
Vote ‘No’ to the oligarchs.
