While You Slept
Description:
John T. Flynn voted for FDR, but he quickly came to regret it. Not only did Flynn see the essential connections between the New Deal and the foreign policy of World War II (and after); he saw FDR’s foreign policy concerning America’s Soviet allies as precipitating the Communists’ victory in China. While the Cold War grew, and William F. Buckley’s New Right conservatism embraced “a totalitarian bureaucracy within our shores” to fight Communism abroad, Flynn tried to remind us that the power of international Communism came from the sort of interventionism the anti-Communists were calling for more of.
